Live Webinar: Seeing the Light: How gas lit up Victorian Britain

The “virtual” Cambridge Museum of Technology presents another free, volunteer-produced webinar that explores the history, heritage and legacy of our industrial past.

This live webinar with audience Q&A will explore the history, physics and engineering of lighting techniques from the Stone age to the Victorian age.

Featuring pioneers such as William Murdoch (of the Boulton & Watt company), the webinar will chart the evolution and progress of gas lighting that gave a significant boost to the emerging industrial revolution and to domestic and commercial lighting.

Webinar topics will include Lighting and other appliances from the early industrial revolution through the Victorian age until gas lighting was finally eclipsed by electrical lighting in the 20th century.
