What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Data Protection Policy

The Association for Industrial Archaeology is a registered charity (No 277511) which promotes the study and appreciation of industrial archaeology. This policy explains how we use any personal information we collect about you when you interact with the Association. We treat the privacy of our members and others seriously, and with our membership manager – Taylor & Francis – take appropriate security measures to safeguard that privacy.

What information do we collect

AIA Members:

When you join the AIA, Taylor & Francis, on our behalf, collects only the information required from you to manage and administer your membership, which includes renewals, the processing of bank details when collecting payment, the posting of Industrial Archaeology Review and Industrial Archaeology News, and Annual or other General Meeting notices. ‘AIA Members’ includes those people who are the nominated contacts for Affiliated Societies.

Others:

If you apply for a grant from AIA, or are nominated for one of our awards, we only collect the personal information needed to process the award or grant.

How do we use information about you?

AIA members:

We collect the information about you to allow us to manage and administer your membership of the AIA and to send a Welcome Pack to new members. On the basis of Legitimate Interest under GDPR, we add your name and email address to our general emailing list so that you are kept informed about AIA activities. You may unsubscribe at any time. The AIA’s Honorary Treasurer also uses the information for the collection of Gift Aid. The membership data is kept confidential.

In order to fulfil our obligations to you as a member, we share your information with Taylor & Francis, whose Privacy Policy can be seen at https://taylorandfrancis.com/customer-privacy/ We will not share your information with organisations outside the AIA or Taylor & Francis. We do not share your data with external marketing companies.

Others:

Information relating to applicants for awards and grants will be used by the administrators and adjudicators of the award or grant for assessment purposes, and disposed of securely once the assessment process is complete. Historical records of applications will be held securely by AIA’s Honorary Secretary.

Access to your information and correction

You have the right to request a copy of the information that is held about you.
