Telford Conference, 9-14 September 2016
Next year’s conference will be held in Telford at the University of Wolverhampton campus, renewing the AIA’s longstanding engagement with the Ironbridge Gorge.
Full details will be on these pages in due course but for the moment we can say our guest speakers include Dr Barrie Trinder, John Yates of Historic England (our Rolt Memorial Lecturer) and Dr Simon Buteux of Birmingham Building Preservation Trust.
Visits include the Grange Colliery, the Wappenshall Canal basin, the Iron Bridge and the Lilleshall limestone sites, all in Telford; Ditherington Flax Mill in Shrewsbury, the RAF Museum’s Conservation Centre in Shifnal, Clee Hills industrial landscape, and the Snailbeach and Tankerville mining sites, all in Shropshire; Evans’ Silver Works and the Coffin Works in Birmingham, Burleigh Pottery in Middleport, Stoke, and Thomas Telford’s roads and canals in North Wales.
