Telford Conference, 9-14 September 2016

This year’s conference will be held in Telford, Shropshire at the University of Wolverhampton campus, renewing the AIA’s longstanding engagement with the Ironbridge Gorge.
The outline programme is:
Friday: Full day seminar: Britain’s Industrial Heritage: What has World Heritage Status inscription done for it?
Saturday: Morning lectures, pre-lunch tour, Members’ contributions, Awards, Annual Dinner
Sunday: AGM, Overseas Visits, Rolt Lecture, Afternoon tour, Dinner, Evening lecture
Monday: Full day tour, Dinner, Evening lecture
Tuesday: Full day tour, Dinner at Ironbridge Gorge Museum
Wednesday: Full day tour, Dinner
Guest speakers include: Dr Barrie Trinder, John Yates of Historic England (our Rolt Memorial Lecturer) and Dr Simon Buteux of Birmingham Building Preservation Trust.
Tours include: the Apley Estate Farm, Broseley Pipeworks, Wappenshall Canal Basin, Lilleshall limestone Mining Landscape, Ditherington Flax Mill. RAF Museum Cosford, Burleigh Pottery, Middleport, Cheddleton Flint Mill, Mill Meece Pumping Station, Museum of Carpet, Kidderminster and Drakelow Tunnels, Birmingham Jewellery Quarter, Aga Foundry, Coalbrookdale, Snailbeach Mine, Thomas Telford’s roads and canals in North Wales, Clee Hills industrial landscape, Charlcotte Furnace and Wrickton Mill.
