Ben Sumpter searches for the sources of tin in antiquity
The earliest travellers to the British Isles whose texts have survived frequently mention tin working in what is now Devon and Cornwall. What do these Greek and Roman sources tell us about the historic tin trade under the Romans, during the Iron Age, and even earlier in the Bronze Age? What place did the British Isles and Cornwall have in the minds of those living in the known world at the time? Ben Sumpter is a researcher and mine explorer, and owner of ‘Cornwall Underground Adventures’.
