Author Tim Bryan tells the story of Brunel’s achievements and innovations
Tim spent 21 years as curator of the GWR and ‘Steam’ Museums in Swindon, and is Director of the Brunel Institute at the SS Great Britain. Brunel’s astounding feats changed the British landscape. New to railways in 1830, he soon rivalled the Stephensons as he embarked on his railway from London to Bristol; ‘the finest work in England’ which opened in 1841. Some monumental failures did not detract from his vision to create a railway empire like no other.
