Cambridge IAG – The Newmarket and Chesterford Railway
8 April@19:30-20:30
Mr Alan Denney will review the History of the Newmarket and Chesterford Railway.
Alan is a long standing member of the Cambridge Railway Group. and a local resident. The N&CR was opened in 1846 and although it ran for only 15 Miles (22 km.) it ran through three Counties. It had a chequered financial history but stability was restored when the Directors were bought out in 1854 by the Eastern Counties Railway. Today one of the original stations on the route, Dullingham, is still in use. The current 21 Minute journey from Newmarket to Cambridge will now cost £7.40. A small fortune in 1846, but perhaps won at Newmarket after a successful “day out” at the Races?
The talk will take place in the Pye Building at Cambridge Museum of Technology. Entrance on the night is via the Museum’s Cheddars Lane gate.
Tickets for the talk are available on the door for £5 a head, £3 for students. Members and Volunteers of Cambridge Museum of Technology can attend for free.
