SUMMARY:CBA Members Weekend 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join the CBA and CBA East Midlands for a weekend of archaeology and heritage activity across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. \nThis event is open to CBA Members and non-members – all are welcome. \nOn Saturday we will be visiting Cromford Mills\, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the first water powered cotton spinning mill. During the guided tour led by Cromford Mills guides\, you will have the opportunity to see some of the older and more significant buildings in the immediate vicinity of the mills. This will last about an hour\, and you will then have some free time to have a wider wander around the village and visit some of the shops\, such as Scarthin Books. \nNottingham University will host our reception on Saturday evening where you’ll have the opportunity to view exhibitions and hear from a range of speakers including CBA Executive Director\, Neil Redfern over a drink and nibbles. \nOn Sunday in Nottingham you will have the chance to explore the UK’s largest network of caves and their changing use through time. Next\, we will visit Brewhouse Yard to discover the stories of Nottingham’s social history and enjoy a lace making demonstration. We will then pause for lunch in the Grade II listed pub Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. The weekend will end with a visit to Nottingham Castle\, a Stuart Restoration-era ducal mansion and a tour of Mortimer’s Hole\, a human made cave beneath the castle with a dramatic medieval story to tell. \nThroughout the weekend there will be opportunities to speak to representatives of the CBA and CBA East Midlands and find out more about what we do and how you can get involved. \nFor full details and booking visit: CBA Members Weekend 2026 Council for British Archaeology
